3 praises!
Great news! Today, two little girls were born to the Samburu mama that Ginna saw early this morning! One child had difficulty, but now seems to be doing fine. The mama still has very high blood pressure, but the three are in good hands at Kijabe Hospital (a mission hospital just outside of Nairobi). To God be the glory for protecting the lives of these three, providing judgment for Ginna and the docs at Kijabe, providing the aircraft and having it available and causing the clouds to break at the Kijabe airstrip just before the plane arrived. What a day!

learning…
This morning, we were awakened by a knock at the door. It was a nurse from the clinic looking for ‘doctari’. Ginna went up to find a mother who was in labor with twins and had such high blood pressure she was having seizures (eclamptic). As Ginna assessed the situation and learned what her (limited) options were in this clinic, we began to learn some of the frustrations of medicine in a situation in such a place as this. A c-section is necessary, but not possible right now given the supplies in the clinic. Ginna was able to administer some drugs to stop the seizures and sedate the mama so we could get her in the plane and fly her to Kijabe.
Please pray for this mama and her two babies!

week 1 in gatab
We have been in Gatab for a week now and are still doing just fine. Monday, I (nate) went down to Loingalani (one of the sites the movie ‘Constant Gardener’ was filmed…the slum near our house being another) and spent the day on the desert floor in triple digit temps. Tuesday we stayed on the mountain because of rain and fog up here. Yesterday, Ginna went down to a village for a mobile clinic. Liam is doing great and just loves boppin’ around outside picking up sticks and chasing lizards.
I tried a couple times to upload some photos, but it just doesn’t work on this slow internet connection. We’ll put up a bunch when we get back next weekend. Thanks for your prayers!

in gatab…
We’re here! We made it safe and sound today. We stopped at two upcountry mission stations on the way up before reaching our destination of Gatab. It is pretty nice up here. We can look right out our window and look down the mountain and see Lake Turkana. We (obviously) have internet, but it is pretty slow. So we probably won’t get pictures up until we return, but I will try and post updates here and there.

to the bush…
Tomorrow morning, our little family piles into a Cessna 206 and heads to Northern Kenya for two weeks. This is part of our orientation. It will give us a look at missions, medical work and a flight program in an ‘upcountry’ or ‘bush’ setting. We are headed to the little village of Gatab, which sits on a mountain looking down at Lake Turkana. read more

power’s back
Last night, just before Barak Obama was inaugurated, our electricity turned back on. First the ceasefire in Gaza, now our electricity returned…the stars are lining up for the Obama administration’s wave of ‘change we can believe in’. Can’t wait.
